WA Police

SW19 Pty Ltd were engaged by Department Treasury and Finance, Building Management and Works to complete condition and hazardous materials surveys on 158 Police sites throughout Western Australia, from Eucla to Kalamburu. The police sites varied in size from small remote community multi-function facilities to Police HQ in Perth.

Due to the remoteness of a number of the sites, detailed risk assessments were undertaken. As a result, two-man teams were used, along with specific vehicles and equipment to combat issues such as fatigue.

Specific attention was paid to the secure areas of the buildings, with the building occupiers provided with a breakdowns schedule. Comments also focuses on the equipment with cells, and potential for use as a ligature or weapon.

Full asset registers were produced, along with photographic records of the sites.

The remote and unique nature of a number of the sites meant that the recommendations for works needed to be practical and achievable, taking into account all circumstances, but ensuring compliance with current standards.
